BELGAUM: Minister for Public Works Department and Energy H.D. Revanna has asked the KPTCL authorities to ensure unabated power supply to the venues of the forthcoming legislature session in Belgaum. Mr. Revanna, who held a meeting with the KPTCL and HESCOM officials here on Wednesday, directed them to make alternate arrangements including additional generator sets so that the proceedings of the legislature and subsequent works during the five-day sitting was not affected. The KPTCL here has taken up system improvement works following which power supply was affected in several areas in the city throughout the day till late evening. The situation will continue for another two days and there will be no power supply on Thursday and Friday in several localities causing hardships to members of public. Mr. Revanna said steps had been taken in improving the electricity supply system, including the setting up of 26 stations in Belgaum district. He said he had managed to bring down Transmission and Distribution losses from 34 per cent to 27 per cent during his two-year term as Minister. By purchasing power at competitive rates, he saved nearly Rs. 700 crore. He said the road development and improvement work would be taken up in the city and inter-State highways between Belgaum and Goa. He said the district administration has been asked to fill all potholes enroute to the venue of legislature session.
