Belgaum
Staff Correspondent
Belgaum: Emotions ran high at an all-party meet convened to the thank the Government for deciding to hold the Legislature session in Belgaum with certain enthusiastic participants making certain demands here on Thursday. The meeting was convened under the chairmanship of the BJP MP Suresh C. Angadi. Prominent among those present included Horticulture and district in-charge Minister Shashikant A. Naik, District Congress Committee president S.S. Bheemannavar, District Janata Dal (S) president Ashok Pujari, District BJP president Eshwar Kadadi, former Mayor Siddangouda Patil and representatives of various Kannada and Dalit organisations. Except BJP MLA Abhaykumar Patil, none of the 22 legislators, including four MLCs, representing the district were present. Interestingly, there is more than what meets the eye in Mr. Angadi convening the meeting. Mr. Angadi has aired his grievances against the district administration for not consulting him and other legislators from the district in making arrangements for the legislature session. It was apparent, as felt by political observers, including those in the BJP, that he was trying to take credit for the Government's decision to hold the session in the city by stating that the all-party meeting chaired by him last year had made the demand.
Kore's efforts
Though Mr. Angadi and all those who spoke at the meeting thanked H.D. Kumaraswamy and Deputy Chief Minister B.S. Yediyurappa for fulfilling the demand of north Karnataka, particularly Belgaum, none bothered to take cognisance of the efforts of KLE Society or its chairman Prabhakar B. Kore, MLC (Congress), to make seating arrangement for the Assembly and Council sessions. However, the meeting decided to present a set of proposals for the overall development of the city and the district to the Government during the session.
