LONDON: The deposed Thai Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra has urged the military rulers to call fresh elections as soon as possible and restore democratic rule. Mr. Thaksin, who arrived here on Wednesday from New York after being ousted in a coup, indicated that he had no immediate plans to return to his country. He said he would take a "deserved rest'' but declined to say how long he planned to live in the United Kingdom. In a statement, Mr. Thaksin, who is staying with his relatives here, called for national reconciliation and early restoration of democracy.
