SIT, Madura in final

Madurai: Sethu Institute of Technology, Kariapatti, and Madura College entered the final of the India Cements Trophy district-level inter-collegiate cricket tournament organised by the Madurai District Cricket Association with victories over Sourashtra College (by nine runs) and M.K. University College (by seven runs) respectively at American College ground, Madurai on Thursday.

The scores (semifinals): SIT, Kariapatti, 133 for seven in 25 overs (Muthukumar 40, Sethuraman four for 24) bt Sourashtra College 124 for nine in 25 overs.

Madura College 140 for seven in 25 overs bt MKU College 133 in 20 overs (Vijaya Kumar four for 19).

St. John's wins title

At Kovilpatti, St. John's College (Palayamkottai) thrashed host GVN College (Kovilpatti) 6-0 to win the title in the final of the Manonmaniam Sundaranar University inter-collegiate hockey tournament at the GK Stadium (Kovilpatti) on Thursday.

Maheswaran and Diwakaran scored a brace each while Prasanan Kumar and Sakthivel scored one goal each.

Acme SC posts win

At Madurai, Saravanarajan's goal in the 63rd minute helped Acme Sports Club defeat MSS Wakfboard College 1-0 in the Madurai District Football Association `A' division league for Hi-Tech Arai Trophy at Madura College ground on Thursday.

Selection trials

Trials for the selection of the Maduai district boys and girls teams to participate in the Tamil Nadu State under-14 inter-district volleyball championship will be helped at 8 a.m. on September 23 at the TVS HSS ground, Lakshmipuram.
