Madrid: The Indian flame in the World Badminton Championship was snuffed out on Thursday with Rupesh Kumar and Sanave Thomas crashing out of the men's doubles event after a 21-15, 21-16 defeat against the formidable Chinese pair of Fu Haifeng and Cai Yun in the pre-quarterfinals.

Meanwhile on Wednesday, Shruti Kurian and Jwala Gutta went out of the women's doubles after a straight games defeat to the Japanese combination of Kumiko Ogura and Reiko Shiota at 11-21, 14-21 in the pre-quarterfinals. — Agencies
