HYDERABAD: Hyderabad Polo and Riding Club (HPRC) had a good day in the Prince of Berar trophy polo tournament, a part of the Hyderabad Polo Season championship, at the Bison polo ground here on Thursday. HPRC-1 and 2 both won its matches with comfortable ease. While HPRC-1 beat the AP Riding Club-Presidents Bodyguard combination by seven goals to thee-and-a-half, the HPRC-2 team defeated Army Service Corps (ASC) by ten goals to six-and-a-half. ASC was given an advantage of two-and-a-half goals as per the handicapping rules. But HPRC-2 made light of it by scoring three goals in the very first chucker and increased the margin as the match progressed. Dhruvpal Godara went on to score six goals, four of these coming in the third chucker. Pratik (2), Khader Siddiqui and Suman Bandi were the other scorers. For ASC, Tarsem Singh and N.S. Khera scored two goals each. In the second match, the APRC-PBG combine was given an advantage of two-and-a-half goals against the HPRC-1 team. For HPRC-1, Australian Brendon Fahey and Sameer Suhag scored three goals each and Chaitania Kumar scored one. Raza Shehzad was the only scorer for APRC-PBG.
Big win for Cal PS
Cal Public School recorded a 289-run win over Pallavi Model School in the Himalaya Cup inter-schools U-15 cricket tournament here. The scores: St. Joseph's HS 81 (Dasarathi Sresht six for 27, Adarsh Kulkarni three for 25) lost to St. Andrews `B' 84 for five; Gowtham Model School 184 (K. Srikanth 32, Srikar 36, Jaideep 30 not out, Chaitanya three for 26) bt HPS Begumpet 110 (Khaleem 51, Ravi Teja four for 28); St. Peter's Model School 179 (Abhishek Pandey 37, Praveen 30, Sudhakar four for 45, Vinay three for 40) bt St. Dominic's HS 89 (Rajendra four for 19, Amruth four for 37); Cal Public School `A' 357 for two (R. Koundinya 106, Rahul Ranout 124 not out, Sharath Raj 58 not out) bt Pallavi Model School 68 (Rayan Kaundinya four for six, Rahul Ranout three for 14); Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan PS 260 (Abhinav 56, Dheeraj 86, Pavan seven for 25) lost to Niraj Public School 261 for seven (Narendra 75, S. Karunesh Kumar 54, Mohsin 34, Karthik 33).
Parle Cup cricket
The Parle Cup U-17 cricket tournament will be organised by the Hyderabad Cricket Association at the Parade Grounds from Oct. 6. The draw copies have been already sent to the participating teams. Meanwhile, it was also announced that the A-Division (three-day) knockout tournament will begin from Oct. 4 at different grounds. For details, contact the HCA office at the Gymkhana grounds.
Inter-district aquathlon
The 16th inter-district aquathlon championship for junior and sub-juniors will be organised by the Krishna District Triathlon Association from Sept. 26 to 27. The State teams for the 16th National aquathlon meet will be picked based on the performances in this event.

Airlines wins title
Indian Airlines defeated Royal Club 5-2 in the final league match to clinch the title in the A-2 Division hockey league championship at Begumpet Police Stadium here. Royal Club took the lead in the fourth minute when Deep Singh scored off a solo effort. But Airlines fought back well to score through Md. Sabir, who struck four times and left-in Kranthi Kumar. In the dying minutes, Deep Singh was in the scoring act again but that goal came too late to change the script. By virtue of this win, Airlines will be promoted to the A-1 Division league.
