RAICHUR: Kerala's Jijimol Jacob and Tamil Nadu's G. Gayathri showed what they are capable of when the conditions are favourable. On the penultimate day of the 18th South Zone inter-State athletics championship at the Mahatma Gandhi Stadium here on Thursday, both Jijimol and Gayathri set new meet records. Jijimol bettered her own mark of 10:53.30 seconds in the under-20 girls 3000 metres with a time of 10:49.1 secs. However, she was way behind her previous best of 10:20.0 secs she timed at the Schools Nationals in Pune. Gayathri triumphed in the girls' under-16 100m hurdles clocking 15.2 secs, besting teammate K. Keerthana's mark of 15.3 secs set last year. Incidentally, Keerthana managed a poor 15.8 secs on Thursday. . Late on Wednesday, N. Shankar, the burly Tamil Nadu boy, heaved the shot put to a new distance of 14.51 metres, for the first meet mark of the championship. Shankar, who won the hammer event too on Thursday, bested K.
