Hyderabad: Chief Minister Y.S.Rajasekhara Reddy will seek financial assistance from the Centre to fund his Government's pro-farmer initiatives at the conclave of Congress Chief Ministers at Nainatal in Uttaranchal on September 23 and 24. He will also demand a new fertiliser price policy, a new Seed and Pesticide Control Act on the lines of Drug Control Act and a crop insurance policy taking the village as a unit, a press release of the Chief Minister's Office said here on Thursday. Dr. Reddy said he wanted the Centre to provide sheep units to create jobs for the downtrodden in the rain-shadow areas and research centres to prevent `Blue Tongue' disease among the animals and bird flu. The Government also plans to seek a special financial package to protect the Ongole-breed bull and to establish milk chilling centres and cold storages at various centres. Dr. Reddy will also lay emphasis on increasing the funds under Accelerated Irrigation Benefit Programme by 10 times with 70 per cent being the Central share. He will also explain to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh and UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi the need to introduce insurance to shrimp farmers.
