KOLLAM: District Congress Committee (DCC) president Sooranad Rajashekaran has alleged that an inferiority complex at implementing a scheme envisaged by the United Democratic Front (UDF) Government is the only reason why the Left Democratic Front (LDF) is unwilling to implement the Family Health Insurance Scheme. He was inaugurating an UDF dharna in front of the Corporation office here on Wednesday as part of a State-wide protest against the failure of the Government and the LDF-ruled local bodies to implement the scheme. Mr. Rajashekaran said the scheme was announced by the UDF Government to help the poor in their medical needs. A sum of Rs.5.25 crore was deposited for the purpose. The insurance covered the hospital expense and the expense of a bystander. The Centre also cleared the scheme. He said the UDF would launch an agitation if the Government shunned the scheme. Leader of the Opposition in the Corporation Council George D. Kattil presided over the dharna. Congress leaders N. Azhakesan, Jameela Ibrahim, Saraswathi Kunjukrishnan, A.K. Hafeez, M. Bhaskaran, Karumalil Sukumaran, P.R. Pratapan and Suraj Ravi addressed the gathering. A dharna in this connection at Karunagapally was inaugurated by KPCC general secretary K.C. Rajan, the former minister Kadavur Sivadasan at Kundara, Congress leader N. Azhakesan at Elamballur, Bharatheepuram Sasi at Yeroor, M. Hidur Mohammed at Chadayamangalam and S. Thajuddin at Punalur.
