Drive to issue voters ID card in Punjab launched

Several new voters have been identified

CHANDIGARH: The first phase of the campaign to issue photo identity cards to eligible voters in Punjab was launched on Thursday in 11 Assembly constituencies.

State Chief Electoral Officer Sundaram Krishan said the electoral rolls revision that had been concluded recently had identified several new voters.

``In order to ensure that all eligible voters receive such cards, a campaign has been launched under which special teams would visit villages in various Assembly constituencies for photographing and issuing identity cards,'' he said.

Programme

The special teams are from the Haryana State Electronics Development Corporation Limited, the nodal agency tasked to execute the programme. -PTI
