Human unity conference

NEW DELHI: The 23rd International Human Unity Conference held at Sant Darshan Singhji Dham in Burari here has unanimously passed a resolution urging world leaders "to give their full cooperation to efforts for coming together of science and spirituality for unity and peace of humankind, in which spiritual leaders such Sant Rajinder Singh have a crucial role to play".

One of the highlights of the conference was a seminar on "Role of science and spirituality in the present Century".

Training officer appointed

NEW DELHI: Jamia Millia Islamia has appointed a full-time Training and Placement Officer (TPO). According to an official release by the university, Rehan Khan Suri has been appointed to the post in the professor's grade. Earlier, the university appointed placement officers only for the Department of Mechanical Engineering. From now on, the TPO will look into placements in all disciplines. Meanwhile, Dr. Afsar Abbas has recently joined Jamia as Director of the Centre for Inter-Disciplinary Research in Basic Sciences.

Creating awareness about savings

NEW DELHI: The National Savings Institute under the Union Finance Ministry observed "Sanchayika Day" at Government Girls' Senior Secondary School No. 1 here on Thursday.

Sanchayika Savings Scheme was introduced by the Finance Ministry in the school to promote awareness about savings. After chanting of Saraswati Vandana, a cultural programme was presented by students of the school. A painting competition on savings was held and a committee of teachers selected three best paintings.

Take four short walks to lower BP

NEW DELHI: Chairman-elect of the Indian Medical Association Academy of Medical Specialities and president of the Heart Care Foundation of India, Dr. K.K. Aggarwal on Thursday said taking four short walks a day might be more effective than one long walk to lower one's blood pressure.

Quoting a study published in the September issue of the Journal of Hypertension, Dr. Aggarwal said Indiana University doctors compared the effects of four 10-minute walks to one 40-minute walk in reducing blood pressure in 20 people with hypertension.

Play staged

NEW DELHI: The Hindi Dramatic Society of Lakshmibai College staged a play, `Bhagvadajjukam', at the NSD auditorium here. Directed by Ramji Bali, the play was appreciated by the audience. TV personality Vinod Nagpal distributed the prizes, according to the convenor Saroj Gulati.
