CHENNAI: The State Government has decided to declare October 11 as a public holiday for the areas under the Madurai (Central) Assembly segment in connection with the by-election.

An official release said here the holiday would be declared under the Negotiable Instruments Act, 1881. All government offices, Government-controlled bodies and all the educational institutions would remain closed on that day, it added.
