HYDERABAD: R. P. Meena, Inspector General and Controller, Legal Metrology, has claimed that Srinivas, photographer of a Telugu daily, had abused and pushed him in the fracas on Wednesday. The senior IPS officer also accused Mary Ravindranath, Chairperson of Andhra Pradesh Mahila Commission, with instigating women to organise dharna against him. She had demanded a written apology to Bhavani by Vimal Kumar. As Vimal Kumar refused to oblige, Ms. Ravindranath asked the police to arrest him. She even expressed solidarity with the demonstrators at RTC X-Roads.
Concealed identity
Mr. Meena said Mr. Srinivas concealed his identity and was spotted taking pictures of the demonstration. He denied that the photographer was manhandled. He claimed that he was not aware of the identity of the person from whom his gunmen snatched the camera. "Anyone under the guise of media person could enter the premises illegally and I was on my guard," he said.
Vengeance
The police officer alleged that his staff acted with vengeance against him as he was setting right a messy situation. Mr. Meena said the sexual harassment complaint was inquired into by the department complaint committee and its report along with a 42-page report giving his observations was submitted to the Government. It was for the Government to take action against the officer, he maintained.
