`Hyderabad Heart Walk' to be held on September 24

Staff Reporter

Aim is to create awareness on heart diseases and prevention

  • Walk will begin from Lal Bahadur Stadium at 7 a.m.
  • Six different activities will be integrated with the walk

HYDERABAD: You ran and walked for Hyderabad earlier. Now, walk for your own heart is the slogan. With the World Heart Day coming up on Sunday, the Yashoda Group of Hospitals is organising a Hyderabad Heart Walk.

The aim: creating awareness among people about prevention and control of heart diseases.

"Walking is the easiest and most convenient form of exercise for most people and it is also very effective in helping prevention of heart diseases," Yashoda Group executive director G. Surender Rao told reporters here on Thursday. The walk would begin from the Lal Bahadur Stadium at 7 a.m. on Sunday, he said.

The hospital's cardiology chief H.S. Somnath said there would be six different activities integrated with the walk.

These would include programmes on managing stress, aerobics, exercises and fitness, a nutrition and diet workshop, exercises based on laughter and an interactive session with cardiologists on cardiac problems.

    Annual basis

Yashoda's senior cardiology consultant Meeraji Rao said the programme would now be held on an annual basis.

"Recent studies have indicated that 25 per cent of India's population is suffering from either diabetes or high blood pressure. Both these groups are at high risk for heart diseases as well. That is why such awareness programmes on cardiac health and care are significant," he said.

    Registrations

Spot registrations can be done at the Lal Bahadur Stadium from 6.30 a.m. to 7.30 a.m. while details are available over telephone numbers 65299003 and 98499 88614 or over email at contact@hyderabadheartwalk.org. Information is also available on the website www.hyderabadheartwalk.org.
