HYDERABAD: A gang of six members took away 20 tolas of gold and Rs. 2.5 lakhs at gunpoint from the family members of a builder, K. Nageswara Choudary, at S.R. Nagar on Thursday night. While the builder was away, his wife and her parents were watching television in their house at Rajeevnagar around 7.40 p.m. when the gang walked in. They knocked on the doors and asked if Mr. Choudary was available. Even before the housewife replied, three of them barged inside and whipped out short firearms that looked like revolvers.
Threaten landlady
"We're not yet sure if they were genuine firearms," the police said. Claiming that they were naxalites of Janashakthi group, the gang members asked the builder's wife to pay Rs. 1 lakh towards party fund. Meanwhile, one of the dacoits went inside and collected the gold from the almirah, the key of which was kept in the keyhole. The other members of the gang threatened the builder's wife to give cash or face death and collected Rs. 2.5 lakhs concealed beneath the clothes. "Later, the gang herded the three inmates of the house into a bedroom, bolted it from outside and went away," the police said. From what they gathered after questioning the watchman of an adjacent building, sleuths suspect the dacoits were pseudo-naxalites and came in a car that was seen parked nearby earlier.
