People's participation in development projects stressed

Thiruvananthapuram: Leader of the Opposition, Oommen Chandy on Thursday underlined the need to ensure people's participation in the implementation of development projects. He was inaugurating the valedictory session of the Bharat Nirman public information campaign organised by the Press Information Bureau at the Alummoodu Government LP School in Kaniyapuram.

Mr.Chandy said the Central Government had allocated Rs.1,74,000 crores to be spent on rural development over the next four years. Programmes such as the Bharat Nirman campaign will help to educate the people on the development programmes taken up by the government, he said.

Kazhakuttam MLA M.A.Vahid presided over the function.

A large number of people turned up for the five-day campaign on the Central Government's flagship programmes.

Various Central and State government departments like VSSC, India Post, DAVP, BSNL, Khadi Board, Kudumbasree and other self-help groups had put up exhibition stalls. The State Bank of Travancore, Pallipuram branch organised a loan mela for Kudumbasree self help groups.

CSI Medical Mission, Kazhakuttam, organised a free medical camp. The Postal department had also set up a stall.
