dated September 23, 1956: Tribute to C.. Raman

In his address to the conference on atomic energy agency in New York on September 20, Admiral Lewis Strauss, Chairman of the US Atomic Energy Commission, referred to "that moment of triumph" at Chicago when in December 1942 scientists witnessed the first-controlled chain reaction. Contributing to that moment were the genius and accumulated discoeries of men and women from other lands. Among them Admiral Strauss named Dr. C.. Raman of India, the Curies of France, Neils Bohr of Denmark and Albert Einstein.
