Staff Correspondent
HUBLI: The legislature session in Belgaum scheduled to be held from September 25 should kick-start the comprehensive development of north Karnataka, spokesperson of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party and Dharwad North MP Pralhad Joshi has said. In a press release issued here, Mr Joshi said the session should be not reduced to a forum for discussion on a few legislations and their approval. He hailed the coalition Government's decision to hold the legislature session in a place other than the State capital as historic. Mr. Joshi said the State Government should take further steps for the development of the region in continuation of holding the session.
Announcements
During the session, the Government should make specific announcements on the implementation of the recommendations of the Dr. Nanjundappa committee report on removing regional imbalances, he said. It should decide on developmental works in border areas, including the Hubli-Ankola railway project, special package for depositors and farmers for revival of the KCC Bank, implementation of Kalasa-Banduri Nala project and expansion of Malaprabha river command area, he said.
Water supply
Mr. Joshi said the session should take specific decisions on improvement of water supply for Hubli-Dharwad and fix the time limit for implementation of development projects related to North Karnataka. Holding the legislature session at a border area would be meaningful only when the State Government took steps towards development of north Karnataka, he added.
