Five per cent DA hike for government staff

Two burned to death in Bagalkot district
Police identified the victims as Uma Hiremath, 25 and Shrimanth Giriyannavar. Uma, whose clothes caught fire while she was cooking, started screaming for help. Her neighbour Shrimanth rushed to her rescue, but he too was engulfed in the inferno. By the time firemen arrived from Bilagi town the house was already gutted. Staff Correspondent
MLA sees lapses in convening session
Releasing a letter he has written to Legislative Assembly Speaker Krishna on the matter, the former Minister said none of the actions taken to convene the session had the approval of the Speaker, who was abroad. Deputy Speaker Gopalakrishna had not been informed of any of these developments. He said the Speaker should have called a meeting with Chief Minister H.D. Kumaraswamy, Leader of the Opposition in the Assembly N. Dharam Singh and other floor leaders before deciding the date and venue of the session. Staff Reporter
Ramesh Jigajinagi bereaved
She was diabetic and died in a private hospital in Sholapur. She was laid to rest on the family farm at Bhutnal village on the outskirts of Bijapur in the afternoon.
