2.40 crores for project-displaced persons

HYDERABAD:
Major Irrigation Minister Ponnala Lakshamaiah has said that the Government has sanctioned Rs.2.40 crores to the residents of Munipallli village at Raikod mandal in Medak district, who were displaced following the construction of the Singur project.
In a press note issued here, the Minister said that the Government acquired 629 acres of land of which 617 acres was private land for construction of the project in 1980. The Government had paid compensation ranging from Rs. 2,000 to Rs. 4,000 per acre.
However, the displaced people demanded that the compensation be increased and approached the court.
Court order
The court in its direction ordered the Government to pay Rs. 12,000 per acre to the farmers. Accordingly, the Government agreed to pay Rs. 2.40 crores towards compensation to the displaced villagers.
