KOTTAYAM: The temples have been decked up for the Navaratri festival which begins on Saturday. The highlight of the festival will be the celebrations at Sri Saraswathy Temple, Panachikkad, also known as Dakshin Mookambi. Senior artists will participate in the national dance and music festival here. The festival will get under way with an Odissi recital by Donna Ganguly on Saturday. Carnatic musician N. Ramani will present a sangeeta sadas on Sunday and Malladi brothers will present a sadas on Monday. Tumri recital by Shubha Joshi will be presented on Tuesday. On Wednesday, the Rangasree School of Arts, Ahmedabad, will perform Gujarati folk dance. Mohiniyattom by the Rigata Culture Society on Thursday and the staging of `Uttara Swayamvaram' by the Kathakali major set on the same day are other attractions of the festival. The festival will conclude with a sopana sangeetam recital by Njeralathu Harigovindan. Actor Kalpana will inaugurate the cultural programmes. Minister for Cultural Affairs M.A. Baby will inaugurate the national festival of song and dance. Musician V. Dakshinamoorthy will be felicitated. Leader of the Opposition Oommen Chandy will preside over the function. The festivities at the Brahmana Samooham Madom began with the preparation of the `bommakkolu.' The women of the madom arranged the `bommakolu.' Lalitha sahasranama laksharchana, samaaradhana, thamboola vitharanam will be performed daily during the fete. Kolam preparation contest for children will be held on October 1. Children will be initiated into education on Vijaya Dasami in the Navaratri mandapam.
