NEW DELHI: Coca-Cola India has welcomed the Kerala High Court order setting aside the ban on the sale of the cold drink, as ordered by the Kerala Government and the State Food (Health) Authority. In a statement issued here on Friday, the company said the order protects the interest of the big and small retailers, local entrepreneurs and employees who have been affected by this "illegal" ban. In response to the interests of consumers, we will take necessary steps to make Coca-Cola available across the State, the statement said. Earlier, the Supreme Court in the pan masala case, had very clearly laid down that the State health authorities had no power to issue such bans under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act other than in emergency situation and that, too, for a temporary period. Given the Supreme Court judgment and the Kerala High Court order we hope that other State governments would reconsider similar orders issued by them and abide by the orders, the statement said.
