ALAPPUZHA: Alappuzha MP K.S. Manoj has demanded that the Union Government provide adequate help to the State Government to aid the effective functioning of the State Virology Institute and make it on a par with the National Institute of Virology. In a memorandum to the Union Ministry of Health, Mr. Manoj said there was urgent need for a virology institute in the district as outbreaks of Japanese Encephalitis, Weil's disease and dengue fever were reported here. The observations of experts on the chikungunya outbreak in the district revealed that the situation was bleak, he said. He stressed the need for more studies on Arbovirus diseases in the district.
