Puducherry: Communist Party of India National Council member R. Viswanathan has called upon the Union Health Ministry to revoke the orders of suspension issued against the employees of the Jawaharlal Institute of Postgraduate Medical Education and Research in the context of the current strike by the employees. He told newspersons here on Friday that the cases filed with the police for their alleged gheraoing of the Director of the Institute some days ago should also be withdrawn. These measures would pave the way for restoration of normalcy in the institute, he said. Mr. Viswanathan said the Ministry should also ensure that the proposed 22-member governing committee, to run JIPMER if it became autonomous, should have the Health Minister of Puducherry as its chairman (instead of the Union Health Minister as had been proposed ). He said there should be no alteration in the pay and other benefits now available to the staff. He also said there should be no `politicisation' of the autonomy issue.
