Members of the Press Council of India led by its chairman, Justice G. N. Ray, called on Chief Minister Y. S. Rajasekhara Reddy on Friday.
The PCI members were here in connection with the hearing of the complaints at the Southern Zone level. Dr. Reddy explained to them the steps initiated by his Government to mitigate the hardships of farmers. Waiver of power bill arrears to the tune of Rs. 1,200 crores and Jala Yagnam were cited by him, as examples of his pro-farmer policies.
On the power front, he said though three-gas based projects had been built in the past, non-availability of gas was making those lie idle. The required gas would be available from 2008, he said. He said the Government was aiming at balanced development by giving importance to all sectors unlike in the past. Justice Ray said in all 48 cases pertaining to complaints in southern States were heard by the members in the last two days.
