HYDERABAD: Telugu Desam president N. Chandrababu Naidu said on Friday that his Government had prioritised rural infrastructure for development, as it believed that road connectivity in villages earned remunerative price for agricultural produce. Addressing the newly-elected mandal parishad presidents of the TDP at a political training camp here on Friday, he said good rural roads were important for shifting the produce to market yards. The cost overrun in transportation would then be reduced, fetching good margins for farmers, he said. The Congress Government, on the other hand, neglected rural infrastructure by allocating meagre funds. The funds of Swarnajayanti Grameen Rozgar Yojana (SGRY), which were meant for development of roads in villages, were diverted to the National Rural Employment Guarantee Programme, he alleged.
