Flood loss in Karimnagar put at Rs. 100 crores

Rs. 10 crores released for temporary relief operations

    KARIMNAGAR: The district administration has estimated that the recent rain and flash floods had caused damage to the tune of over Rs. 100 crores, including Rs. 50 crores in agriculture sector, in Karimnagar.

    Disclosing this to newsmen here on Friday, Collector M.V. Satyanarayana said that the Government had released Rs. 10 crores for temporary relief operations in the district and proposals had been sent for the release an additional Rs. 21.45 crores for taking up permanent restoration works in the district.

    He said that individuals had incurred a loss of Rs. 10 crores. A total of 2,560 houses had been damaged completely and 12,089 partially.

    Transco losses

    APTransco suffered a loss of Rs. 1 crore, rural water supply schemes Rs. 2 crores, and roads to the tune of Rs. 4 crores.

    Preliminary estimates stated that the crops were damaged in 1.08 acres and the final enumeration was not yet completed.

    He said that sand dunes were formed in over 10,000 acres and they had taken measures for the removal of these under the employment guarantee scheme on a war-footing.

    He said that the Karimnagar-Hyderabad road, which got breached at Thotapally village, would be temporarily restored and opened for traffic on Saturday.

    He said that several roads were connected in Jammikunta mandal.

    Three villages of Veenavanka mandal were still without power.

    Ex gratia

    He said family members of 14 persons who died in the recent floods had been given ex gratia and two bodies were yet to be identified.

    Two others were not eligible under the scheme.

    He said that they had taken up distribution of rice, kerosene, clothes and utensils to the affected people in the district. The four relief camps would be lifted on Friday night.
