KOZHIKODE: A two-day annual science, maths, social science, IT and arts exhibition, organised by Silver Hills Higher Secondary School, began here on Friday. District Collector A. Jayathilak inaugurated the exhibition. The students also took part in an interactive session with the District Collector. Francis Thonippara, CMI Provincial, Kozhikode, presided over the inaugural function. Principal of the School George Punchayil spoke. The exhibition features stalls put by students as well as outside agencies, including the CWRDM, Planetarium, Coast Guard and KIRTADS. The KIRTADS stall has put on display baskets and musical instruments used by tribal people. The Coast Guard Beypore Station has a stall to introduce students and visitors to the activities of the force. Students of the Mathematics Club explain the impact of mathematical shapes in various facets such as construction of houses or even in a cross-section of a leaf. The Tourism Club of the school has put up exhibits to give information on tourism destinations and other details.
Stamps
The Philately Club has exhibited a rich collection of stamps and information on how to search for stamps. Costumes used by drama artistes and information on Malayalam drama and playwrights have been put on display by the Actors Club. The Karate Club gives information on the martial art, on its legendary practitioner Bruce Lee, his films and weapons used in karate. The CWRDM stalls details the water resources of the State. The Regional Science and Planetarium has also put a stall. The Social Service Club has exhibited charts and pictures of leaders of this country. Visitors are also requested to donate their mite to be used for social service.
Medical stall
The Science Club members have devised various working models, including a magnetic crane and a bulb that glows at the clap of your hands. The medical stall has exhibited organs of the body in formaldehyde. Students explained the functioning of various body organs, which were exhibited with help from the Kozhikode Medical College. The School has stood first in the district-level social science and mathematics fairs and first in the sub-district level in Science fair. A science drama and cultural programme, including songs rendered by students, were also held as part of the exhibition. The exhibition is open to students from other schools also.
