BEIJING: World No. 1 Amelie Mauresmo beat American Lindsay Davenport for the first time in 12 matches, taking her place in the semifinals of the China Open with a 6-4 6-3 win on Friday. It was a mixed day for China, with Li Na bounced out 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 by second seeded Russian Svetlana Kuznetsova while 60th ranked Peng Shuai reached her fifth career WTA semifinal with a 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-2 victory over Japan's Ai Sugiyama. Mauresmo capitalised on her superior mobility and 16 unforced errors by Davenport to claim her first win over the American since Sydney in 2000. ``It's very frustrating to be at the wrong end of those kind of runs so it's nice to take control like I did tonight and reverse things,'' she said. The results: At Beijing (WTA China Open): Quarterfinals: Jelena Jankovic bt Nadia Petrova 6-4, 4-6, 6-2; Peng Shuai bt Ai Sugiyama 7-6(3), 3-6, 6-2; Second round: Lindsay Davenport bt Zheng Jie 6-2, 7-6(4); Li Na bt Elena Vesnina 3-6, 6-1, 6-1. At Portoroz (WTA Slovenia Open): Second round: Andreja Klepac bt Romina Oprandi 7-5, 4-6, 6-1; Emilie Loit bt Zuzana Ondraskova 3-6, 6-3, 6-3; Jarmila Gajdosova bt Margalita Chakhnasvili 6-2, 6-4; Tamira Paszek bt Iveta Benesova 6-1, 6-2.
