HYDERABAD: Ravji Rathore was the star performer as Navy/ CAV defeated APRC/ PBG by 11-2-1/2 in the Prince of Berar Trophy of the Hyderabad Polo Season here on Friday. Rathore struck twice in the first chukker, once each in the second and twice in fourth chukker starting with a handicap of +3. The other main scorer was A. Sirohi, who was on target once in the second and third chukkers, before striking twice in the fourth chukker. A.P. Singh scored two goals to complete the tally for the winners. In another match, ASC, starting with a handicap of +2, defeated Artillery/ CAV 6-2 with Tarsem Singh striking twice in the first chukker and once in the fourth to be the leading scorer. For the losers, Raj Sangram Singh scored two goals in the third chukker.

Easy for AC Guards
AC Guards scored a convincing 6-0 win over Royal Club in the `A'-2 Division hockey league championship here. Khalid Bin Masood scored in the 22nd, 31st and 47th minutes, while Shaikh Waheed added two more in the 28th and 34th minutes. Mohd. Ashraf Ali struck one goal.
Raju wins title
P.R. Raju of India won the singles title in the Pakistan veterans ITF tennis tournament (above-55) with a 6-2, 6-3 victory against Akber Khan of the host in the final, according to information received here. The Hyderabad-based Raju happens to be the first Indian to win an ITF title in this age group abroad.
Niraj School wins
Niraj Public School recorded a four-wicket win over St. Peter's High School in the Himalaya Cup inter-schools (under-15) cricket tournament here. The scores: St. Peter's HS 127 (Amrith 30, Rajendra 30, Mohsin three for 28, B.S. Karunesh Kumar five for 29) lost to Niraj Public School 128 for for six (Arjun 52, Karthik 31 not out, Amrit four for 37). Cal Public School `B' 128 lost to All Saint's HS 129 for one (M. Varun Reddy 57, M. Nitin Sai Reddy 53 not out).
8-wicket win for Air Force
Air Force scored an eight-wicket victory against Army Green in the 55th inter-services cricket tournament here. The scores: Army Green 101 lost to Air Force 102 for two.
Probables named
The Hyderabad Cricket Association has displayed the list of under-22 probables of the State team for the South Zone inter-State championship in Hyderabad from October 14 to November 2 on the notice board at the Gymkhana. The selected players should report for practice matches at different grounds from September 25.
Easy for Veva
An unbeaten 38 by Rajesh helped Veva post a 49-run victory over Misfit Club in the day-night APSACS Cup cricket tournament here on Friday. The scores: IRS Club (Income Tax) 113 (Anil four for 21) bt APTS 67 (Sanjay Patel three for 14). Veva 104 for six (Rajesh 38 not out, Kishore 25) bt Misfit Club 65 (Santosh 30).
OU cross-country camp

Adoption XI triumphs
Adoption XI, consisting mainly of trainees selected under the District Sports Authority (Visakhapatnam) scheme, defeated Nalco (Anugul) 4-3, via tie-breaker, to win the inaugural Soma Oram memorial open football tournament held at Damanjodi (Orissa) recently. Prem Swaroop, A. Prasad, Sk. Saidul and V. Prasad scored for Adoption XI. Sudeep Kumar of Adoption XI was adjudged the `best and promising goalkeeper' of the tournament. District Sports Development Officer, N. Surya Rao, congratulated the team and its coach D. Maria Joji for their performance.
