Mysore: The State-level Dasara 2006 wrestling events will kick-off at the D. Devaraj Urs Multi-Purpose Stadium, Doddakare Maidan, from September 23 and the karate events will begin at the Chamundivihar Indoor Stadium on the same day. More than 300 wrestlers from all over the State can be seen in action. Every day, the local version of the game, "Nadu Kusti", will be conducted and around an average of 10 pairs in different weight categories will be in action. The National-level wrestling championship will be held from September 26 to 29. The women's wrestling championship will be conducted for the first time this year and will begin on September 25. In karate, events will be conducted for men, boys, women and girls in individual kata, team kata and individual kumite in different weight categories.
Triple for Padmapriya
Local girl A.K. Padmapriya, a ninth standard student of St. Thomas High School, Mysore, hogged the limelight on the concluding day of the AITA Talent Series tennis championships for juniors by adding one more title to the two she had won on Thursday by clinching the girls under-14 singles title here on Friday. The second-seeded Padmapriya registered a 6-3, 6-0 upset win over top-seeded Rachana R. Gowda (Karnataka) to clinch the title. The prizes were given away by Dr. N.M. Srinivas, President, Mysore Tennis Club.
Akshay, Maidhreyee win titles
Second-seeded Akshay Mohanta (HTTA, Mysore) and Maidhreyee Beloor of Belgaum won the cadet boys and girls singles titles respectively in the MTTC State ranking table tennis tournament here on Friday. Akshay upset top-seeded Deepak Dev (PTTA, Mysore) 11-6, 11-9, 15-13 and later he completed a double, winning the non-medallist doubles title, partnering Ullas Nayak. Second seed Maidhreyee shocked top seed C. Subashree (SAI, Bangalore) 11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8 for the title. The results: Cadet boys: Singles: Final: Akshay Mohanta (HTTA) bt Deepak Dev (PTTA) 11-6, 11-9, 15-13. Cadet Girls: Singles: Final: Maidhreyee Bellor (Bgm) bt C. Subashree (SAI) 11-5, 6-11, 11-8, 11-8. Non-medallists: Singles: Final: Ruthu Parna Sharma (Hor) bt Bhavana V. Murthy (Hor) 14-12, 8-11, 11-7, 11-9. Non-medallists: Doubles: Final: Akshay Mohanta/ Ullas Nayak (HTTA) bt Misbah S.A./ Abhishek Shetty (SAI) 11-7, 6-11, 11-8, 11-7.
Vijaya Bank posts win
Bangalore : Vijaya Bank defeated BEML 92-48 in a Prof. N.C. Parappa Memorial State `A' division basketball league match at the Sree Kanteerava Stadium courts here on Friday. The second phase of the league will commence here on October 12.
