SONEPAT: The Haryana Government has decided to add 2,700 new buses to its Roadways fleet during the 12th Five-Year Plan. The State Government plans to spend Rs.10 crore every year on maintenance of various Haryana Roadways depots, Transport Minister Randeep Singh Surjewala told reporters here on Friday. The annual Roadways Budget, he said, has also been increased from Rs.56 crore in 2004-06 to Rs. 78 crore for the current financial year. He said 3,338 buses of Haryana Roadways ferried more than 11 lakh passengers daily. The Haryana Roadways services have also been made qualitative by adding a new fleet of ultra modern buses. The Minister said the State Government now plans to add 500 new buses in the Roadways fleet every year and recruit about 1,000 conductors and equal number of drivers in the near future. The Minister also referred to the demands of the Roadways employees and claimed that the previous Chautala Government had failed to grant a Rs.3,000 bonus for 2004-05.- PTI
