ALLAHABAD: Allahabad High Court on Friday deferred till September 25, hearing in a contempt case against Uttar Pradesh Chief Secretary and others for not holding local bodies election in the State despite the court's order. Chief Secretary Naveen Chandra Bajpai and Principal Secretary, Nagar Vikas, Amal Kumar Verma who were present in the court filed an affidavit annexing a copy of the State notification issued for the polls. Justice D P Singh, hearing the contempt petition filed by Rakesh Kumar Singh, said the State Government had not complied with a December 2005 order by a Division Bench that had directed holding of elections within six months. The notification on Thursday had listed the schedule for urban local bodies elections to be held in three phases on October 28, 31 and November 3. - PTI
