THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Supreme Court has directed the Union Government to issue orders on a report recommending an increase of 100 seats for the MBBS course in the State submitted by a team from the Medical Council of India, a press note issued from the office of the Health Minister on Friday said. The MCI team has recommended an increase of 50 seats each at the Government medical colleges in Alappuzha and Thrissur. This report was accepted by the Supreme Court, the press note said. The Union Government's approval is expected by September 25, the press note added. The team from the MCI had inspected the medical colleges in Alappuzha, Kottayam and Thrissur.
