Conference on `business with India'

Special Correspondent

Meet to be held in Montreal

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The National Association of Canadians of Origins in India, Montreal, Canada, will host a national conference on `Doing business with India' and `The future directions for Indo-Canadians' in Montreal on September 30.

The annual general meeting of its parent organisation, the National Indo-Canadian Council, will also be held in Montreal on October 1.

Following the visit of Prime Minister Paul Martin to India in 2005, there was accelerating interest in bilateral trade and business cooperation between India and Canada. The Government of Canada under Prime Minister Stephen Harper showed great enthusiasm in further strengthening this relationship. In the past two years, there were a record number of bilateral visits at the political as well as the official levels, said C.I. Petros from Kerala, who is one of the organisers.

The Asia-Pacific Foundation of Canada had completed several major trade studies and was fostering new ways to deepen commercial and economic relationship between India and Canada. Several bilateral business organisations such as the Canada-India Business Council and the Indo-Canada Chamber of Commerce were also working towards boosting economic and trade ties between the two nations.
