BSP suspends MP for anti-party activity

LUCKNOW: The Bahujan Samaj Party Member of Parliament from Khalilabad in Uttar Pradesh, Bhal Chandra Yadav, has been suspended for anti-party activity.

Addressing a press conference here, BSP general secretary Naseemuddin Siddiqui said the MP had been suspended by the party president Mayawati for demanding Assembly tickets for his supporters.

Mr Siddiqui said Mr Yadav had asked Ms Mayawati to allot party tickets to his supporters in all the Assembly segments of the Khalilabad parliamentary constituency in Basti district. He said the MP kept on asking Ms Mayawati for nominations in spite of her telling him that loyalty to the party was the sole consideration for being fielded in the Vidhan Sabha elections.

Mr Yadav, who was earlier in the Samajwadi Party, won the 2004 Lok Sabha elections from Khalilabad as the BSP candidate. Meanwhile, according to informed sources, Bhal Chandra Yadav was hobnobbing with the Jan Morcha leaders and there was a likelihood that he would join the Jan Morcha during the course of the Mukti Sangram Yatra beginning on Saturday from Kushinagar district.

Sources said that information about his overtures towards the Jan Morcha leaders was conveyed to the BSP president.

Another BSP MP, Baleshwar Yadav, had been suspended by Ms Mayawati earlier. Sources said he too was in touch with Jan Morcha leaders. The sitting BSP MP from Faizabad, Mitrasen Yadav, is also reportedly hobnobbing with the Jan Morcha, sources added.
