Drainage system to be strengthened

Staff Reporter

KARIMNAGAR: Collector M. V. Satyanarayana stressed on the need to strengthen the existing drainage system in Karimnagar town to avoid flooding of low-lying areas.

Responding to a news item `Poor infrastructure blamed for inundation' published in these columns on Wednesday, the Collector said that non-removal of silt from the drains and illegal encroachments of drains was the reason for flooding of low-lying areas in Karimnagar due to heavy rain. He said that encroachments would be removed and the drains would be widened while some remodelled to ensure smooth flow of water. He said that the new drains would be designed in such a manner that they will withstand any amount of rainfall for the next 20 years.
