CHENNAI: Newly elected president of the State unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party L. Ganesan on Friday assured party members that he would devote himself to the cause of rejuvenating the organisation in Tamil Nadu. Responding to the observation of his colleague M. Venkaiah Naidu that a major challenge lay before the party in the State (in the wake of the debacle in the Assembly elections), Mr. Ganesan said party workers should carry out introspection and move forward. "Some extra fittings may have disappeared. But, pillars, in the form of cadre, remain intact. They are as strong as they were in the past," Mr. Ganesan said in his acceptance speech at a meeting of the State council. On the party's strategy for the local bodies polls, he said the alliance formed for the Assembly elections would continue. In every district, a panel of seven to 10 persons had been constituted. It would take care of entering into tie-up with other parties and finalising candidates. Ram Naik, central observer for the organisational polls in the State, said Tamil Nadu was the first State to complete the elections. He commended outgoing president C.P. Radhakrishnan for doing "a good job in spite of political difficulties in Tamil Nadu." Mr. Naik described Mr. Ganesan as a "grassroots worker of over 20 years' standing." Mr. Naidu wanted all party members to support Mr. Ganesan. He accused the United Progressive Alliance Government at the Centre of creating divisiveness in the country. The country was suffering on the fronts of internal, food and economic security, thanks to policies of the UPA Government, he said.
