Dropout rate under check, says Minister

A record 98.85 p.c. primary schoolchildren move to upper primary level

  • Some 14.4 million students enrolled in the State during 2006-07
  • Teaching in tribal languages helps curb dropout rate among Girijans

    HYDERABAD: In the wake of the measures taken by the Government to arrest dropout rate, a record 98.85 per cent of primary schoolchildren went to upper primary level in the State during 2006-07, School Education Minister K. Rajyalakshmi said here on Thursday.

    Talking to reporters after a review of Sarva Siksha Abhiyan and mid-day meal scheme, she said the Government's aim was to make it 100 per cent. Pointing out that dropouts after primary level were normally high, she said that while 89.38 per cent of primary schoolchildren moved to upper primary in the State during 2005-06, it was 87 per cent at the national level..
