THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages Private Limited has welcomed the Kerala High Court order lifting the ban on the cola in the State imposed by the Government. In a statement here on Friday, the company said the order protected the big and small retailers, local entrepreneurs and employees who were affected by the ban. The company would immediately take necessary steps to make the soft drink available across the State. The statement said the company had always been confident of the safety of its soft drinks because they were produced as per the EU criteria for bottled water (globally accepted as one of the most stringent in the world). The Supreme Court had, in the Godavat Pan Masala Case, clearly laid down that the State Health Authorities had no power to issue such bans under the Prevention of Food Adulteration Act other than in `emergent situations' and that too for a temporary period after giving the affected party a hearing.
