Alleged criminal

gunned down

NEW DELHI: An alleged criminal was gunned down in an encounter with the Special Cell of the Delhi police at Mangolpuri in North-West Delhi on Thursday.

Two of his accomplices were arrested earlier in the day.

According to the police, Prit Pal Singh (21) and Vikas Malik (26) were arrested when they were riding a stolen motorcycle.

A country-made firearm and four live cartridges were allegedly recovered from their possession.

During interrogation, Prit Pal allegedly disclosed that he worked for Dewan Chand, who was involved in cases of attempt-to-murder, robbery, theft and burglary.

At his instance, a team under the supervision of Assistant Commissioner of Police Sanjeev Yadav laid a trap and tried to intercept the motorcycle on which the suspect was moving.

Instead of stopping, the accused opened fire at the police.

In the retaliatory fire, Dewan Chand sustained bullet injures and died on the spot.

The police claim to have recovered a 9 mm pistol from his possession.

Dewan Chand and his accomplices mainly targeted women in North-West Delhi and would allegedly stab their prey at the slightest resistance.
