NEW DELHI: A gang of alleged bag-lifters from Salem in Tamil Nadu has been busted by the Special Staff of the South Delhi police. The police have also rescued a six-year-old boy who had allegedly been kidnapped by the gang from Faridabad in 2005. They were allegedly planning to use him in committing crimes. Acting on tip-off, a Special Staff team led by Inspector Rajender Singh arrested six members of the gang, including a woman, at Lajpat Nagar on Thursday. They have been identified as Ganesh, Meenakshi, Karan, Rajni, Babloo and Sarju. Six-year-old Shubham Gupta was also recovered from them. At their instance, the police claim to have recovered stolen goods worth Rs. 2 lakhs including four diamond rings, golden chains, knives and catapults. Investigations revealed that Shubham, son of a popcorn vendor in Faridabad, had been kidnapped by Kamakshi, Meenakshi's sister, in October 2005. Kamakshi had handed over the child to Meenakshi and left for another place. Meenakshi and her husband Vijay introduced the child to the gang. They had begun training him in skills of bag lifting and would often take him along when they were "on the job".
