Thiruvananthapuram: Tension continued to prevail at Thachoottukavu in Malayinkeezhu on Friday following a violent stand off between Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) and Democratic Youth Federation of India (DYFI) men in the area. The attack on an RSS activist, Manikuttan, at Edapazhanji on Wednesday sparked off the violence. Persons suspected to be RSS activists destroyed DYFI flags and other party symbols at Thachottukavu junction the same evening. Unidentified persons threw stones at a teashop owned by Mohanan, a CPI(M) worker, on Thursday. The law and order situation worsened further on Friday when persons suspected to be DYFI activists attacked the houses of some RSS workers. The Malayinkeezhu police have arrested six RSS workers in connection with the destruction of CPI(M) and DYFI party symbols and flags . So far, no DYFI worker has been arrested. SP, Rural, Yogesh Gupta visited Malayinkeezhu and took stock of the situation. He chaired a meeting of the leaders of the opposing groups at the local police station.
