THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: In keeping with age-old customs, the three Navarathri idols of Saraswathi Devi, Munnootti Nanga and Kumaraswamy arrived in the city on Friday evening. While the idol of Saraswathi Devi was brought on an elephant, the idol of Kumaraswamy was brought on a silver horse and that of Munnootti Nanga on a palanquin. When the idols came near the Navarathri Mandapam, head of the royal family of erstwhile Travancore Uthradom Tirunal Marthanda Varma offered `kaanikka'. Following a `deeparadhana,' the idols of Kumaraswamy and Munnootti Nanga were taken to Aryasala Devi temple and Chenthitta Devi temple respectively. The idol of Saraswathi Devi was taken to the Navarathri Mandapam after an `arat' for `nalliruppu.' The idol will be installed at the `pakidasala' on Saturday morning after puja. The idols began their annual journey to the city on Wednesday from Sucheendram. After overnight halts at Kuzhithura and Neyyanttinkara, the idols reached Nemom on Friday morning where they were received by Revenue officials and the police. By evening, the idols reached Avadi Ammal temple at Karamana. Caparisoned elephants, the mounted police and `panchavadyam' accompanied the idols on the final leg of their journey to the Navarathri Mandapam.
