E.M.G. Yadava Women's College regains title

Madurai: E.M.G. Yadava Women's College regained the Mami's Masala Trophy after three years, defeating Sri Meenakshi Government College for Women 22-29, 29-11, 29-15 in the final of the Madurai Kamaraj University inter-collegiate women's ball badminton tournament at the University ground on Friday.

The results: semifinals: EMG Yadava bt VVV College, Virudhunagar 29-5, 29-17; Sri Meenakshi College bt SFR College, Sivakasi 17-29, 29-28, 29-28.

Quarterfinals: EMG Yadava bt Madura College 29-12, 29-5; VVV College bt Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi 29-8, 29-3; Sri Meenakshi College bt Lady Doak College 17-29, 29-23, 29-26; SFR College, Sivakasi bt VHNSN, Virudhunagar 29-14, 29-9.

Cricket camp

Yadava College wins

Yadava College, Madurai, lifted the Sri Kaliswari College Trophy defeating host Sri Kaliswari College, Sivakasi 25-20, 25-21, 17-25, 25-15 in the final of the Madurai Kamaraj University `A' Zone inter-collegiate volleyball tournament at Sivakasi on Friday.

The results: semifinals: Yadava College bt Ayya Nadar Janakiammal College, Sivakasi 25-18, 25-17, 25-21; Sri Kaliwari College bt MAVMM Ayira Vysya College, Madurai 25-15, 25-12, 25-18.

R.K. Sinha triumphs

R.K. Sinha of Central Zone and Sandhya Adhangle of West Zone won the men's and women's singles titles respectively in the inter-Airport Authority of India badminton tournament at the MGR Race Course indoor stadium, Madurai, on Saturday.

The results: men's singles final: R.K. Sinha bt Sunil Kumar (Central Zone) 21-17, 21-12; semifinals: R.K. Sinha bt M.K.P. Sigamani (South Zone) 21-19, 21-10; Sunil Kumar bt K. Vijayan (SZ) 19-21, 21-18, 21-15.

Women: singles: final: Sandhya Adhangle bt V.S.I. Mary (WZ) 21-14, 21-17; semifinals: Sandhya Adhangle bt Nalini (SZ) 21-7, 21-18; V.S.I. Mary bt Vanaja (SZ) 23-21, 21-18.

Santhosh excels

An all-round performance by M. Santhosh Senthil Gopi (102 runs and five for 13) helped Freak Amigos Cricket Club post a resounding 152-runs victory over Oxford Cricket Club in the Madurai District Cricket Association first division `A' Zone league at Madurai recently.

In another match, R. Arun's Century (100) and Gopi's five for 15 enabled Kapil Devils Cricket Club to register a comfortable 84-run victory over Majestic Cricket Club.

The scores: first div. A zone: Freak Amigos 198 for seven in 48 overs (M. Santhosh Gopi 102) bt Oxford CC 46 in 20 overs (M. Santhosh Gopi five for 13); Kapil Devils 246 for five in 50 overs (R. Varun 100, Senthil 41, Ranjith 52 not out) bt Majestic 162 in 35.1 overs (Vijay Anand 45, Kasi Viswanathan 73, Gopi five for 15).

First div. B zone: Spark Colts 231 in 41 overs (Raja Pandi 55) bt Majestic Kids 111 in 29 overs (Maideen 43). Richards 252 for nine in 46 overs (Vainith 56) bt Eleven Star 188 in 41 overs (Shyam Arun 55, Anand 56).

Second div: Mercury Legends 155 for six in 30 overs (Ganesh 47) bt Stalwarts 78 in 18 overs (Vimal Nath four for 22).

Third div: Jai Hind 82 in 23.1 overs (Raj four for 16) lost to Aparajitha 93 for two in 19.2 overs.

Karthik nets a brace

A brace by Karthik helped Friends Club defeat Usilai Soccer Club, Usilampatti 2-0 in the Madurai District Football Association `A' division league for the Hi-Tech Arai Trophy at the Madura College ground on Saturday.
