TIRUPATI: There appears to be a deep shadow on the prospects of the much-hyped information technology park, scheduled to come up on the 140-acre site identified for the project on the way to Renigunta airport. According to sources, the soil is not suitable for construction of huge structures. Meanwhile, the team comprising members, among others, from the Andhra Pradesh Industrial Infrastructure Corporation, was also said to have expressed its apprehensions over the continued availability of water in the area.
AAI objection
Besides, the Civil Aviation Department and the Airports Authority of India (AAI) are also said to be none too happy over the Government setting up the IT park on the site and have already said as much to the authorities concerned. Their objection basically was that the site being in the close proximity to the airport, might pose problems to the flights taking-off and landing at the airport when high rise buildings eventually come-up in the I.T. Park. Though the State Government did not accord much importance to the AAI's objectionson the ground that the proximity was not so much as it apprehended, it is now said to be on the back foot with its own technical team expressing reservations over the strength of the soil at the site.
Collector sounded
Sources said that the Government has already sounded Chittoor District Collector to find an alternative site for the proposed park on the Tirupati - Chandragiri highway, somewhere close to the `150-ft bypass road' and in all probability, it might materialise soon as there may be no frills to the site on this section as it is believed to be both technically and commercially suitable than the airport road site. Tirupati is one of the Grade-II towns identified by the Government for the setting up of the IT parks, the other towns being Vijayawada, Warangal and Kakinada.
