East Bengal beats United

KOLKATA: Leader East Bengal marched to a 2-0 victory against United Sports Club while defending champion Mohun Bagan was forced to share points with George Telegraph after a goalless draw here on Saturday.

Playing its ninth match, East Bengal tasted the first blood in the 54th minute through Syed Rahim Nabi. Fourteen minutes later United defender Wajed Ali put the ball in his own goal in trying to clear the ball to safety.

The win, seventh for East Bengal enabled the side to reach 22 points from nine games.— Special Correspondent
