THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Fine spell by off-spinner S. Anish (five for 41) enabled South Zone take the first-innings lead against North Zone in the State under-22 inter-zone cricket tournament here on Saturday. North Zone, in reply to South Zone's first innings total of 295, was bundled out for 169 with P.M. Tejus (78) and Jeevan Abraham (32) doing the bulk of scoring. South Zone in its second innings was 85 for two in 18 overs at stumps.
Idukki wins
At Palakkad, Idukki pulled off a three-wicket victory over the host in their league game in the Central Zone under-15 inter-district cricket championship on Saturday. The scores: South Zone 295 in 84.2 overs (Sambasiva Sharma 117, Vineeth 63, Abhilash four for 46) & 85 for two in 18 overs (Anish Rajalingam 35 n.o.) vs. North Zone 169 in 42.2 overs (P.M. Tejus 78, Jeevan Abraham 32, S. Anish five for 41, S. Zulfikar three for 63). At Palakkad (the Central Zone under-15 inter-district cricket championship): Palakkad 68 in 32.5 overs (Sharath four for 2) lost to Idukki 69 for seven in 41.5 overs. Idukki 4 pts, Palakkad 0. Friday's result: Ernakulam 97 for nine in 28.3 overs (Achu Vijay four for 14) v Idukki (match abandoned owing to rain). Ernakulam 1 point, Idukki 1.
