MOSCOW: Bob and Mike Bryan beat Dmitry Tursunov and Mikhail Youzhny 6-3, 6-4, 6-2 in Saturday's Davis Cup semifinal to keep alive the United States' hopes of beating Russia. The win means the top-ranked Bryan brothers have lost just once in 10 Davis Cup matches in last year's first round against eventual champions Croatia and leaves the United States trailing 2-1 ahead of Sunday's reverse singles. ``Andy and James kept coming up to us and saying, `Give us a chance, give us another shot, let us redeem ourselves.' And that's kind of what we went into the match thinking all the time,'' Bob Bryan said. ``We did our job today. That's what the guys counted on us to do,'' he said.
Argentina 2-0 up
Jose Acasuso gave Argentina a 2-0 advantage over Australia when he defeated Lleyton Hewitt in their Davis Cup semifinal tie in Buenos Aires. Acasuso won 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, 6-1 in the match, which had been delayed overnight because of the rain. Resuming at 4-0 up in the fifth set but a break point down, Acasuso dropped his serve but then won the next two games to secure victory. David Nalbandian had given the hosts the first point yesterday when he defeated Mark Philippoussis 6-4, 6-3, 6-3 on Friday.
The results: At Moscow: Russia 2 leads the U.S 1 (Mikhail Youzhny & Dmitry Tursunov lost to Mike Bryan & Bob Bryan 6-3, 6-4, 6-2). At Buenos Aires: Argentina 1 leads Australia 0 (David Nalbandian bt Mark Philippoussis 6-4, 6-3, 6-3); Jose Acasuso leads Lleyton Hewitt 1-6, 6-4, 4-6, 6-2, 4-0 (play suspended). Agencies
