Corretja to retire

Santander (Spain): Alex Corretja, the winner of 17 ATP singles titles and a former No. 2-ranked player, announced his retirement on Saturday. "I am retiring with the tranquility that I have given 100 per cent all the time," the 32-year-old Corretja said in a statement.

Corretja was not competing and has struggled to overcome an eye injury. Corretja's last ATP event was in April 2005 in Estoril. During his 16-year career, he made the French Open finals in 1998 and 2001 and helped Spain win its first Davis Cup title.n 2000. — AP
